Wedding Hair Tips for Thin Hair

Your blissful day is just around the corner. Glancing around, everything seems to be in order. Flowers have been ordered, and you had your way with choosing the colors your wedding party should wear. Anxiously, you look into the mirror and begin to wonder how you will wear your hair. If there was ever a day when you must look prettier, more elegant, and perfect, this would be the day. There’s just one slight problem: you have thin hair. Examining the baby-fine texture of your hair makes your heart sink

Help is on the way when you can be referred to a good reputable stylist who is familiar with thin hair. Your stylist will know exactly what to do with your hair. If you want to wear it up, she will know one of the smartest tricks is to wear the top part of the hair close and smooth to your head. In the crown area, there can be many curls, with or without a small hairpiece.

However, if you prefer to do it yourself, the easiest way to achieve a cluster of curls would be to use a micro-based wiglet with many curls. They come inexpensively with a synthetic match to your hair and would probably be the answer to your problem. Depending on where you want the curls, it would be dependent on where you want to put two tight pin curls for the comb on the base to slip easily under. Tighten with pins, and you are ready to go. Should you go to the salon, then your hairstylist can have this piece already styled for you and attach it to your hair when you come in.

Backcombing

With or without the wiglet, the use of a heavy gel or setting lotion is a must. Roll your hair with rollers and take the necessary time under the dryer to make sure your hair is completely dry. When your hair is dry, your curls will go exactly in the direction you set the rollers. Thin hair will be less likely to fall or droop using this method. After the hair is stiffly dry, the next step is a good brushing with backcombing. To backcomb, take half-inch sections of hair, start your comb from the top, and comb from the end. Take it out and repeat. Keep doing this until there is no more hair to backcomb in that section's top. Backcombing is still in vogue to give the impression of volume and heavier hair and maintain staying power.

Teasing (backcombing) also helps any textured hair conform and align with the style you have envisioned. Tease and spray with a good hairspray, then wait until it's dry. Smooth the section and place it where you desire. Remember, you don't need a curling iron because you've already curled your hair. If you're working on an updo, gently brush upward at the back while smoothing all the strands evenly until the hair is ready to lay on your head. You decide where you want your curls and place bobby pins to guide you, soon to be hidden in the back of your hair. At this point, the hair should only look smooth at the lower back. Move to the sides and gently smooth with a brush or large hairpin, working upward and back as you go. Add more pins. Smooth the top very closely to the scalp and secure it with more pins.

The type and size of curls to use depend on the length of the hair. If the hair is about three or four inches long at the crown, it may look messy due to the backcombing. When you take a large hairpin and start to fluff the tops over and out, you will see your style take shape. Spray as you go, and for a more elegant look, use a braided hairpiece to weave in and out of the curls. While the illusion of more hair can be attractive, too much hair can detract from your natural look. Strive for as natural a look as possible, almost like a "with the least for the most" look.

There is an important tip to consider. Unless you are highly skilled with hair or have a friend who is, I highly recommend going to a professional on your important day so that everything goes smoothly. Stress can cause a worried look on your face, which can follow through to your "I dos."

Short Hair

Short or long thin hair? Short hair can be just as beautiful as long, thin hair, depending on your preference. Short hair always complements your outfit. With short hair, you can look incredibly neat, chic, sophisticated, and even sexy. Did I mention short hair and sexy?

Some of the most beautiful women in the world have short hair, though you may not have noticed. Some even have thin hair that they have disguised over the years with highlights, hairpieces, lotions, and gels. Therefore, you are not alone. Ask yourself, what kind of look do you have in mind? Do you want short, straight hair? Use a very heavy gel or lotion and your round brush while blow-drying until smooth. A bob with a slight tilt under would be lovely. The gel, blow dryer, and brush should fluff your cuticles enough for the full effect you're looking for.

If you're thinking of curls, roll your hair with medium-sized rollers with the gel or lotion and set it under the dryer for about 30 minutes. Before brushing your hair out, spray it and let it dry. Since you have set your rollers in the exact direction you want your curls to go, you will notice this when you brush your hair out. If you want your face framed with curls, set your rollers toward your face. If you want your hair to go back away from your face, set them to go back. If you have about two inches of hair all around your head, you can purchase one-inch rollers and position them in various ways to get a tousled effect. After drying, backcomb your hair all over and use your fingers to smooth out different parts and scatter it lightly for a full effect. Don't use a brush unless you want a very smooth, irregular look.

Veil

Today, brides wear their veils from the top of their head to the nape of their neck, rather than over their face like in the past. Some brides opt not to wear a veil at all. Any length veil can look nice as long as your hair is styled well underneath. If your veil is attached to a tiara, most people place the tiara directly on top of the head with the veil flowing from the back. Without the tiara, some people attach the veil just above a cluster of curls at the base of the head with a hair ornament. Some brides prefer flowers in their hair, such as baby's breath. All of this is based on the bride's personal taste.

What if you have natural curly hair that seems to be too curly for the style you want? We’ll talk about this in the next article.
