Dry & Frizzy Hair After Blow-drying

Q: My hair feels dry and frizzy after blow-drying.

A: This is a common problem for people who use heat-styling. I can't stress enough how harsh blow-dryers, curling irons and flat irons can be on hair. If you use any of these appliances, you have to make sure to use products to protect your hair and prevent damage.

For starters, you should use a moisture-rich shampoo to wash your hair followed by a moisturizing conditioner after every shampoo. In addition, use a leave-in spray conditioner before blow-drying the hair. You can also use an anti-frizz serum (applied to your hair when still wet) for extra protection. And finally, once a week, use a deepconditioning treatment with protein to help keep the hair healthy and strong.

You will also want to be sure to adjust your heat settings on your hair dryer as you dry your hair. Start with the heat set to high while the hair is wet, but as it becomes drier (but while it's still damp) switch it to the low heat setting and finish drying. It's also important to hold the dryer at least 8 inches away from the hair and keep the air flow moving. It may take longer to dry the hair in this manner, but the results will be worth it.

If you still have a problem with dryness and frizz using these products and techniques, consider using the hair dryer only to dry the hair until it is slightly damp, and let it finish drying naturally.
