Q: What are the best shampoos for breakage and dry hair? Please help.

A: Your best bet would be to go directly to your hairstylist. Ask her/him to do an analysis on your scalp and hair, so that he/she can recommend a professional shampoo, conditioner and treatment that is tailored to your needs. Just remember that your hairstylist is trained to analyze your hair, and to give you the best recommendations that will fit your needs perfectly.

If you’re not into this option, you can go to the store and have a look at the shampoos and conditioners yourself. Remember shampoo’s main goal is not to nourish hair. Shampoo is designed to clean hair, (basically stripping it of natural and artificial oils as well as product build-up), while conditioner is designed to nourish hair. Thus, look for a shampoo that treats damaged and dry hair, but also concentrate on a quality conditioner and treatment.

Here are a few really good products to try out:

1. Aussie Three Minute Miracle Conditioner: This one is a crowd pleaser and much cheaper than its contemporaries.

2. L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Shampoo and Conditioner. You can also use the L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm, which is the “treatment” component in this range.

3. Use Pantene Damage Detox Shampoo together with Pantene Rehab Crème.

4. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair mask. One of my personal favourites.

5. Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream. This might be really good for you, as dry damaged hair tends to be really dull and unhealthy looking. The glossing cream will instantly make your hair look healthier and revived.

6. HSI Professional Argan Oil Leave-In Conditioner. Any product with natural Argan oil is gold.

7. Hydrating Argan Oil Hair Mask by Arvazallia. This product is a bit more expensive, but well worth the money.
