Q: If you tie your hair to sleep in a bun or a ponytail does it make your hair long or damage your hair? Also, how do I grow long hair fast?

A: Putting the hair up into a ponytail while sleeping can actually damage the hair, particularly if you toss and turn a lot while sleeping. A better option is the bun, or a braid, tied at the end with a silk scarf or ribbon.

Even a better option would be the use of a sleeping cap, which is generally made from a silky material which causes less friction to the hair and therefore reduces the damage that is normally incurred.

As for growing long hair fast, the secret is to eat a good diet that is high in protein, keep the scalp clean and healthy, and care for the hair to prevent damage and breakage. This means keeping the hair moisturized and in good condition, but also being sure to avoid excess wear and tear on the hair from styling.

The hair grows an average of one-half inch each month, so with regular trimming, you can expect to increase the hair's length by 4 to 5 inches each year.
