Strong Root Growth Patterns & Cowlicks

Q: I've recently been thinking about growing out my hair, but I have very strong root growth patterns and cowlicks. I have always had my hair short for this reason.

I have used gel and moose in the past to style my hair, but it started losing the look after 2-3 hours. Is there anything I could do to help control my hair while it is growing or am I stuck with wild hair until I can put it in a ponytail or something?

A: People with strong growth patterns often complain of being limited to short hairstyles because they fear the dreaded "growing out" period and the wild headed appearance that can accompany it.

However, there is a possible solution for you. Many people with your problem find that getting a straightener service helps to redirect the growth pattern into a more manageable configuration. There are formulas available for every hair type, and you can be assured of getting a gentle service that will help you get the look you desire. And most importantly, will help you get past the dreaded growth phase.

This would consist of using a "thio-based" permanent wave formula to relax the hair and reconfigure the growth pattern so that the hair bends into the direction you want it to follow. The neutralizer will help to reset the hair's side bonds into the new pattern.

It won't change the way your hair grows, but it can make the hair easier to manage as it grows out. And you will only need to perform a retouch service as the new growth comes in and begins to reassert the growth pattern. There are formulas and types of perms and straighteners that are very gentle and perfect for this task.

Speak with a professional stylist about your hair type and your goals and work together to come up with a plan that can help you get the results you want.
