Argan Oil

Q: Every time I try to grow my hair out; it just becomes so dry and coarse you can scour pots with it. Is there anything that can be done to make my hair more soft and pliable?

A: Actually, I like to use Argan oil with my clients. It's a natural, rich oil made from the kernels found within the pits of the Argan fruit. The pits contain 1-3 kernels which are roasted and pressed for their oil.

The Argan tree is native to North Africa, around Morocco. You can find Argan oil preparations specifically for cosmetic use at your local beauty supply, and can even find shampoo, conditioner and leave-in sprays that incorporate Argan oil in their formulation.

I've personally used Argan oil with my own clients and had a marvelous result. One client had badly over-processed her hair through repeated bleaching and coloring, and after using the warmed Argan oil on her hair, covering it with a plastic cap, and wearing overnight, she shampooed the following morning to find that her hair was soft, shiny and looked much healthier.

It's also excellent for dry skin and can be used as an after-bath moisturizer. This also means that it would work for those with dry scalp issues as well.
